because for the most part, these ‘drug buyers’ are elderly American’s that can’t afford the high cost of
filling their medications in the US. Instead of travelling across Canada or Mexico many Americans
are now looking to the Internet for their medical requirements.
Telemedicine (or cybermedicine) provides consumers with the
option of consulting with a doctor online , and order drugs over the Internet with
a lower cost. This has resulted in consumers turning to online pharmacies for their medical
needs particularly those who have a connection with a doctor.
These allow the consumer to completely bypass traditional brick and mortar pharmacies, and
also having their doctor serve in the role of an intermediary for the patient and the pharmacy.
According to Johnson (2005) the reason for this is because of
people becoming very dissatisfied when it comes to dealing with both
traditional brick and mortar pharmacy and doctors.
