Happy Labor Day! Are YOU In Your Place?

Hey Family,

Over 15 years ago or so, I found something that changed my life forever. That something was theater. I simply love theater. Theater has become my escape from life. Theater allows you to escape for about two and a half hours and enter into an intense fantasy.  I ask you, “What Takes You To Your Place?”  Whatever your place is, it is with great excitement that I am able to provide this experience for YOU!

Join me for Stay In Your Place on November 14th and 15th!  With couples across the nation dealing with isIMG_3740sues of infidelity,  Author Tonja Ayers tackles this issue head on in a comedic way with the stage play Stay in Your Place.

Derived from her bestselling book “A Ho Needs to Stay in a Ho’s Place”, Tonja solicited scriptwriter DuJuan Johnson to bring her vision from the pages of the book to the stage. In addition to DuJuan, Ms. Ayers hired Melissa Talbot to direct and produce the production.

The idea of taking the book from paper to the stage was actually the idea of Mrs. Talbot. This stage play will bring you face to face with the issues involved in an unfaithful relationship and promises to keep your complete attention until the curtain drops. I am honored to involved!!

Join me and the other UPU Producers for a FUN, CRAZY AND REALLY SEXY show!

  4. PLANT OUT SPRING BEDDING

Wallflowers get their name from their habit of growing near  stone walls.

Erysimum cheiri are shortlived evergreen perennials or biennials often grown as
    spring bedding.

You can buy them as plug plants now and get them
in the ground to flower early next year. This is a fun activity to do with children or grandchildren. All you need is a well-weeded flower bed in a sunny spot, gardening gloves, and
    a trowel.

Dig a hole so that the base of the plant is level with
the soil. Pop in your young wallflower, firm the earth
around it and water well. Repeat, leaving 20cm between plants.

They can grow to up to 50cm high depending on the variety and come in a
range of bright colours. E. ‘Fireglow’ is a dazzling red and orange variety; E.
‘Bowles Mauve’ is light purple, while E. ‘Sunset
Primrose’ is a fragrant lemon yellow.

This is also the time to plant plugs of Sweet
Williams (Dianthus barbatus). These are also biennials or short-lived perennials which grow to between 40
to 60cm with clusters of carnation-like flowers from February to
June in colours from white to deep pink, often in a combination of two tones.

They prefer well-drained, alkaline to neutral soil
    in full sun.

    POTATOES NEED LIFTING AND STORING

Potatoes are ready to lift when the foliage starts to die down

Potatoes are ready to lift when the foliage starts to die down. Remove leaves
with signs of blight. Take care not to damage tubers, lift and leave them on the ground to dry.

Place in a paper bag and keep them in the dark, so they do not sprout.
Check regularly, and dump any looking diseased.

Hazelnuts are ready when the husks turn yellow. Store in a dry room
in a net bag. Once they are fully dry, remove the
    husks.

Walnuts (Juglans regia) have a fibrous casing, which should be removed using gloves, before drying
in a cool oven at 40C – then keep them in a dry place.

    PLANT OF THE WEEK

    ACTEA SIMPLEX (BRUNETTE)

Actea simplex or baneberry is a herbaceous perennial, which grows well in moist soil in dappled shade.

In autumn, it produces spikes of tiny fragrant white flowers which
are purple in bud. These are a good source of late nectar
for pollinating insects and are followed by poisonous berries.

Actea simplex ‘Brunette’ is a cultivar that has been given the Royal Horticultural Society Award
of Garden Merit. Its deep purplish brown foliage contrasts
well with its ghostly white blooms.

    READER’S QUESTION

Can you recommend good daffodils for pots?

    Serena Dalton, Knutsford.

Dwarf narcissi daffodils are ideal for pots and make a cheerful
welcome if you place them by your front door

Dwarf narcissi are ideal for pots and make a cheerful welcome if you place them by your front door.
    N. Tête-à-tête is a classic miniature daff with
golden yellow blooms. N. ‘Jetfire’ has a windswept appearance.

    N. ‘More and More’ is a dainty new dwarf variety that is long flowering.
Petticoat daffodils are also worth showing off in pots, with their bell-like blooms.
Try N. ‘White Petticoat’ or N. ‘Mary Poppins’ with magical creamy
    white flowers.

  7. LONDON/PORT LOUIS, Nov 28 (Reuters) – The British government says it is confident its plan to secure the future
of a U.S.-British military base on the Indian Ocean island of Diego Garcia will be ratified after an ally of U.S.
President-elect Donald Trump and the new Mauritian prime
    minister publicly dismissed the deal.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer wants to finalize a political agreement that hands
Mauritius sovereignty of the Chagos Islands while securing a 99-year
lease on the base for Britain and its U.S. ally.

The agreement still needs to be ratified by both sides and, since it was signed, a new
Mauritian government has been formed by former opposition leader
    Navin Ramgoolam.

Ramgoolam’s description of the deal as a sellout before an election this month, in which
he ousted Pravind Jugnauth as prime minister, has prompted a flurry of diplomacy, with
British National Security Adviser Jonathan Powell
    flying to Mauritius this week.

Powell will also travel to Washington soon for talks to discuss the deal and broader security
    issues, a government official said.

Trump’s pick for secretary of state, Marco Rubio, has said the agreement poses
“a serious threat” to U.S. security by ceding the archipelago – with its strategic base used by U.S.

long-range bombers as well as warships – to a country allied
    with China.

A spokesperson for Starmer said he was confident the deal would be finalized.

“I think it’s an entirely usual process for a new administration to study the detail, but all indications suggest the commitment of the new administration to progressing the agreement,” the spokesperson told reporters on Thursday.

British foreign minister David Lammy had said on Wednesday he was confident the deal
would go through, adding that the U.S. intelligence agencies, State Department, Pentagon and White House had all welcomed it.

Britain said last month it would hand over the Chagos Islands, after years of sometimes acrimonious negotiations.

U.S. President Biden supported the deal when it was announced, and Jugnauth said it marked the completion of a push to decolonise the archipelago.

Many of the exiled Chagossians, however, say they were not involved in the negotiations and cannot endorse it.

When Mauritius became independent after a century and a
half of British colonial rule in the 1960s, London retained control of the Chagos Islands,
forcibly displacing up to 2,000 people in the 1970s to make way for the base.
